Introduction

New Beginnings is a roguelite game where every run is a fresh challenge, combining procedurally generated environments with rewarding gameplay mechanics. The game focuses on fast-paced combat, player progression, and exploration within a dynamic, ever-changing world.

As the sole Level Design stakeholder, I was responsible for creating the foundational experiences that define the game. My work spanned a wide range of areas:

  • Designing and implementing levels, balancing challenge and exploration with a focus on player agency.

  • Creating modular kits in collaboration with artists, allowing for quick iteration while maintaining visual consistency.

  • Designing combat encounters that encourage strategic thinking, ensuring no two runs felt the same.

  • Blocking out environments to set the pace and flow of gameplay, keeping the player engaged throughout each run.

  • Collaborating with the art team to determine the visual direction and aesthetic, ensuring that each area felt cohesive and immersive.

Working on New Beginnings was a fantastic opportunity to push my skills in both Level Design and collaborative game development, ensuring that every level was challenging, visually appealing, and fun to explore.
