Introduction
New Beginnings is a roguelite game where every run is a fresh challenge, combining procedurally generated environments with rewarding gameplay mechanics. The game focuses on fast-paced combat, player progression, and exploration within a dynamic, ever-changing world.
As the sole Level Design stakeholder, I was responsible for creating the foundational experiences that define the game. My work spanned a wide range of areas:
Designing and implementing levels, balancing challenge and exploration with a focus on player agency.
Creating modular kits in collaboration with artists, allowing for quick iteration while maintaining visual consistency.
Designing combat encounters that encourage strategic thinking, ensuring no two runs felt the same.
Blocking out environments to set the pace and flow of gameplay, keeping the player engaged throughout each run.
Collaborating with the art team to determine the visual direction and aesthetic, ensuring that each area felt cohesive and immersive.
Working on New Beginnings was a fantastic opportunity to push my skills in both Level Design and collaborative game development, ensuring that every level was challenging, visually appealing, and fun to explore.
